Beginner student learning Indonesian at Puri Bahasa Indonesia in Yogyakarta

Indonesian Language Course for Beginners

No experience needed. Start from zero and hold real conversations within days.

Yogyakarta's only A-accredited Indonesian language school

Start from zero

No prior knowledge needed

Most of our students arrive knowing nothing more than "terima kasih." That's completely fine. Our classes are built for absolute beginners.

Teachers who get it

Our teachers are experienced in working with absolute beginners. They know how to build confidence from day one - starting with greetings, introductions, and everyday phrases students use immediately.

Easier than expected

Indonesian is widely considered one of the easiest languages for English speakers. No tones, no gendered nouns, no verb conjugations. The alphabet is Latin - students read from their first lesson.

Flexible pace and schedule

Students set the pace. Whether 2 hours a day or 6, one week or three months, we tailor the program to each student.

What the first week looks like

  1. 1

    Day 1-2

Greetings, introductions, numbers, ordering food, telling the time, basic questions (who, what, where, how much).

  2. 2

    Day 3-4

    Describing things, talking about yourself.

  3. 3

    Day 5+

Simple conversations with locals, talking about plans, expressing opinions.

This is a typical week for a student taking 4 hours per day. We adjust to each student's pace and schedule.

Good news: Indonesian is one of the easiest languages to learn

  • Latin alphabet - no new script to learn
  • No tones (unlike Chinese, Thai, or Vietnamese)
  • No verb conjugations - no past, present, or future verb forms
  • No gendered nouns (unlike French, German, or Spanish)
  • Straightforward word order
  • Many loanwords from English and Dutch that students may recognize
  • Indonesian is spoken by over 250 million people, making it also one of the most widely spoken languages in the world.

No preparation needed.
